The Cornerman

Jealousy had trumped brotherly love and Joseph lost his brightly colored robe and freedom. He was sold into slavery. Bad went to worse where he was – wrongfully accused of rape and thrown into jail. Innocent, yet accused by powerful people he was in jail, in a foreign country.
Even though things looked pretty bleak for Joseph, God was up to something in his life. He blessed Joseph even in prison so that all that whatever he did prospered. His integrity showed in a multitude of little decisions and attitudes. Soon the warden of the prison placed high trust Joseph and promoted him to be in charge of the prison.
Pharaoh even ended up promoting Joseph to the second highest position in the land. He was appointed manager of Egypt’s vast agricultural resources. Joseph stored grain and allocated it in such a way as to prepare for survival during a seven year famine.
It was during this time that again Joseph’s faith was tested as the tables turn and he is no longer tested in poverty but tested in power. And so continues the maturing process of a follower of God.
Joseph’s struggle (Tug O’ War) for survival and trust was real, and it is just as real for us. Knowing who is pulling for us and who is pulling against us makes all the difference between our faith and despair.
